Interesting new Flash-based SE from France - Kartoo (www.kartoo.com). At first it's admittedly cumbersome and ackward, but read the Help section and you can quickly see how powerful this concept is.[Note: This message has been edited by Janet Berg]

*VERY COOL* It's a SE that VISUALLY demonstrates the relationships between various search paramiters. It displays complex information in an intutive, easy to understand interface. It seems to draw on similar principals and research as the ThinkMap program. http://www.thinkmap.com Download the PDF whitepaper here: http://www.plumbdesign.com/products/thinkmap/white_paper That said, it looks like there are commonalities in the work with 4-D Visual as well. http://www.4d-visual.com/ And when it comes to displaying complex information via cartography, these guys are worth looking into http://www.curious-software.com/Pages/home/home.htm There will always be people who search for information using a text based hirearchy - text lists. However, I argue that humans naturally seek visual patterns. Displaying information in a visual graphic plays to the streangths of humans. I look forward to this type of information display becoming more common within the SE community. *I am biased. For as long as I have been contributing to SEF, I have been advocating using visual graphics based SE organization.

I've been playing with it a bit more. There is a text based version of Kartoo (for all of the traditionalists out there) as well as a HTML version. And if you really want to have fun, you can change the look of the display and save your prefered display pattern.

That is definitely the coolest site I've seen in a long time. Usually novelty type sites like this don't actually function that well, but this does useful searches too!

Thats a very interesting search concept, but a totally queer ui/design... it's a pity.

yes, the design takes some getting used to but I'm not sure how else they could easily display the relationships between sites/keywords ... ? I have a few minor gripes as well but the greatest feature was the ability to add/remove keywords dynamically to the search. If I didn't get the most appropriate search results I found that after adding/dropping a few keywords the results were dead-on .. far more accurate than many of the top SE's.(Oh and I guess it's not appropriate to have links to other forums huh? sorry )
