OK, I'm thinking of gaining some hands on coding knowledge. Ideally, I'd like to find a self-paced, online program that can take me through the basics of coding and on to more advanced things.

Failing that "tutorial" style approach, I'd consider an online university curriculum, followed by location based (which I'll explore in my own area).

Heck, I'm not even sure if intro to PHP coding stuff even exists.

Though my workplace is entirely .NET, I still think there's value for me (in the future) in having a better understanding of PHP programming.

If I come across anything myself, I'll try to remember to post up links here for others.

When I started coding long back ( almost a decade back), there were not much help available on the net or elsewhere. The only way to improve your coding was to develop complex applications in a development server. We had no choice as our Project Leader insisted that we complete our daily quota of so many lines. We ripped apart some ready made scripts and learnt to use reusable modules.

Did I say we were writing codes in Perl ?

Once you know the logic of programming, languages don't really matter.

I never set goals by number of lines coded.

I set it by adding each block of functionality.
