I am working with a high traffic online directory
and want to make money from all the traffic.

It has a high alexa ranking has been around for years
but the owner doesn't even have an adsense account.

He says he got 21 million hits last year around 50k a day.

The only way he is making money is by selling listings
to businesses, like a phone book.

I know there are ways to take advantage of a high traffic
site like using adwords but I am totally new to this and would really appreciate some help... or at least a push in the right direction.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

    Tony

Tony - could you update your profile with the domain in question? It'd make it easier for use to take a look-see then fire off some advice.

Opps was I suppose to read that?

Actually I left it out on purpose.

It's not my site but I think it has
great potential to be a goldmine.

I just need a little help figuring
out the best way to "mine" it.

I wouldn't be opposed to brining on
a partner if they had some good ideas.

    Later,

    Tony

Actually he has a few domains that kinda
    filter into his sites.

I'm a little leary (sp?) about giving out
the domain because this is not my site and
I wouldn't want someone to steal this potential
client away from me. I hope you understand.

I will give you any other information I can.

What else would you like to know about it?

The three things that have worked best for me in order of income generated are:

    1. Google Adsense (Yahoo is another option but still in Beta)
    2. Magazine Subscription affiliate programs
    3. Other affiliate programs related to site content

Magazine subscriptions pay 30% commissions and there are usually magazines specific to any subject so they convert very well.

Other affiliate programs tend to pay lower commissions so wisdom in deciding which to promote is required. For example, Amazon.com pays only 5% so you either have to review a huge number of books or focus on high dollar items. A member once posted that she does well with Amazon by promoting high end products related to her site.

There are many sites online reviewing affiliate programs and providing tips on increasing income from them.

Commission Junction is a great place to find both magazine and other affiliate programs.
