Hi,
I am a bit concerned about my Adsense campaign. I have read in a few places that a high click through rate will get a site flagged by Google and possibly banned. I seem to have a very high click through rate in comparison to what other people say and it has increased since I started an Adwords campaign in December. Before december my CTR was 7 percent, since December it has increased to 12 percent overall but in excess of 20 percent most days. Should I be worried? I have heard that sites banned are also removed from Google's index and my site has just started to get quite a few page 1 results. Oh, and by the way, I don't click on my own ads, most of the clicks are on pages served by the google Adwords campaign.

So long as you are not:

1 - incenting folks to click on the ads - like paying them
2 - telling friends to click them
3 - clicking them yourself

...you should be fine.

A high CTR is NOT a REASON to be banned - but high CTRs do get looked at to ensure it's all legit.

If it's all legit, you have no worries.

If there is anything untoward, look for problems from G.

Thanks - that makes me feel a little better. I am more worried about getting taken out of the Google Index as I have seemingly just come out of the "Sandbox" and noticed a huge rise in pages indexed and good keyword results just this week, my site was just 1 year old in December.
I was wondering if I should pause my Adwords campaign to get the CTR back down but I am reluctant to as it seems to be working quite well.

That sounds about right for a content rich website with some actual work put behind it. wink

Adwords campaigns don't impact Adsense campaign. wink At least, your Adwords campaign doesn't influence your Adsense campaign.

So long as the increase in traffic is what's driving the increase in click rates on the Adsense ads, it's right on track. I saw the same thing with one of my own websites.

It might take you a little while, but you'll have to get used to the increased revenue. wink

Plus, if G thinks any of the clicks are bogus, they will remove them form the count and take back the money for those clicks automatically...

Thanks very much for that SportsGuy, some very helpful and nice comments. Just a bit of encouragement goes a long way, I have worked very hard on the website for the last year and have made loads of mistakes. I know the website is pretty basic but I have tried to make it useful and interesting for the people who look at it. I was on the verge of giving up over Christmas due to very poor Google results, but now feel encouraged and ready to keep on improving the site. I will have no problem getting used to increased revenue! Again thanks
