I checked one of the competition website and I see they rank very high on a few keywords:

    Their Methodology:

The have another sister site - High PR . Topical of course. 99% of their links coming from that site are point to the new site. Are placed on different IP's (of course). In the footer on main high PR site, they have a link with anchor text pointing to the subject site. and I mean Each page!

    The result:
No 1 on Google for those keywords and a high link count too.

Is that a fair play ? I too have done that but just one link and coming from text on main page. I know if employ the same trick, I can push him down anytime!

interlinking your web sites together is acceptable like you have sites b,c,d point to site a , is better if they are niche related it would give better score and if they are not on the same ISP.

agreed. But giving them a link from 'each page' in order to increase link count and /or ranking is isnt spamming ?

you can put in as many links from a web ite as you wanna google would just not give extra score for more then 1 link and yes even might consider it spamming.

I agree. If Google really believed that a link from every page of one site really meant more than just one link, we'd all be in trouble.

Again, don't assume that the one silly trick is the one thing that gives them the advantage; it may be that without that trick, they'd do even better wink

I interlink my sites, most people do - just as in the bricksnmortar world, I'd use one of my businesses to help launch another. But I don't go crazy, as that only raises flags with google and upsets my rivals smile

In this case the site in question is showing 95% of backlink count from one site. If Google is going to give them a benefit of just one link, then there is no way they can rank number 2 for a give key word. And in this case they are. I can PM you the site if you want.

think of back linkas like the base of a pyramid. Your target site is the apex. Not spamming at all
