I submitted my site map to google and now I see warning stated below. Can anyone pls tell me what kind of redirect is that ? I don't think my site have any redirects setup:

    "URLs not followed
When we tested a sample of the URLs from your Sitemap, we found that some URLs were not accessible to Googlebot because they contained too many redirects. Please change the URLs in your Sitemap that redirect and replace them with the destination URL (the redirect target). All valid URLs will still be submitted."

The URLs do not return "200 OK", but instead return "301" or "302" or even worse a string of redirects.

You must not put that type of URL in a sitemap.

How do the sitemap generators deal with redirects?

Do they include them as Frank's has, or do they just show the 'final destination' (ie the 'real url')?

I've never had the problem, but it strikes me it can't be uncommon. And I've never seen it discussed.

Certainly the better online generators do allow you edit your sitemap, so ones seen as 'error' don't get included.

This maybe a good place to put a link to Google's List of Third Party Sitemaps Programs & Websites

This sort of problem might occur if the links within the site point at URLs which redirect. That is always a bad move. People should NOT hit redirects as they normally browse around the site.

If the sitemap generator just harvests the URLs from the links as they appear on the page then that would account for the source of the error.

A sane sitemap generator would check the HTTP Status Code returned by each URL that is checked, and alert the user to any URL not returning a "200 OK" status.

    Thanks for that.

Looks like a case for xenu to find all those forgotten redirects wink

Sure does. I guess it will also find some other overlooked issues too.
