The most important component that google uses for ranking its site is by using links in their algorithms.
Will google ever be able to change this criteria?
If yes, then how will be they ranking the sites?
And when do you think this may happen, 5-10yrs, or less or more?

    Regards
    Sam

I don't think Google would want to stop using links. The question is always how will they use links, not 'will they'.

Google understands more than any other SE how it's links that make the Internet go round, and they learned the hard way that saying so in public was a mistake!

They are getting ever more sophisticated in how they attribute credit to links, and that's good (and necessary), but I really don't see them moving away from links, ever.

What they are increasingly doing well is looking at both links AND content at the same time - a delicate balance that will keep them busy for decades!
