...and it's the big boys fault. I've been seeing it for years on end ever since I could comprehend that the big corps are just greedy vultures not really interested in real innovation, just interested in profit. Who cares if the environment suffers, lets keep making the gas guzzler cars and trucks and churning out mediocre designs <sarcasm>. Ever watch the science channel? You'll see some really amazing car design coming out of tiny upstarts. The only problem they have is that they don't have the financial backing that big Ford, GM, and Chrysler have. If they did, Ford and company would die a quick and efficient death as they deserve.
And these power companies need to have their monopolies dissolved. People need to wrap themselves around the idea of producing their own power on an individual basis using the new film solar panels and other high-tech methods that are currently available.
That is the only way america will get on top again through true innovation. True innovation is what makes life exciting, not churning out inferior products just to make a buck. Nobody appreciates accepting crap handed to us when that's all they offer. I keep hearing how america is failing financially. This is a large part of the problem. Keep producing the same old crap and doing the same old greedy tactics and this country will turn into a 3rd world nation.

Depends where you live up here really. But once you get used to it, it's really not too bad

It's really insane. For the past year or more, I've seen a great many documentaries about current hybrid car projects getting 100+ mpg on gas with some getting 150+ mpg. And no, they do not need to be slow. There is one all electric sports car that even does the 0-60 in about 3 seconds. The technology is out there, the USA motor corps are just ignoring it and keep selling us 20 mpg crap when we could be getting 120 mpg cars. I laugh at the GM commercial touting the large SUV hybrid getting 25-30 mpg because I know it could be designed to get at least 75+ mpg with no degradation in performance. GM, Ford, Chrysler; WE ARE NOT THAT DUMB to accept that this is all you have. We weren't born yesterday, but yet this is the crap they keep handing us.
Then there is the KillaCycle drag bike: bike uses only about $0.07 worth of electricity on a run down a quarter-mile drag strip at speeds up to 157 mph, including 0-60 mph in a 45 foot distance in less than a second. Try to run that cheaply on racing fuel.
...and this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Yep, we really need to get away from the gas monkey. Sadly most of us are gonna suffer big time due to the car makers refusing to make REAL hybrids that get the gas mileage they really should be getting. In the near future, these car makers are going to make these high efficiency cars and they'll cash in big time at our expense, teasing us with gradual mpg increases each year. You watch, first they'll introduce cars at 50 mpg, then 2 years later: 60 mpg, then 2 years later: 75 mpg, then 2 years later: 90 mpg, then 2 years later: 110 mpg. See the pattern?
It's a load of crap what they sell to us, because they have 150 mpg cars already. Greedy car makers are just milking it like they have all along. It's time to get mad and force them to release the technology now or put the “big 3”, the current big Jap, big German and big Korean makers out of business and let some new car startups have a go at it to give the public what they need.
