From the BBC

Version 3 of the popular Firefox web browser is going on general release on 17 June.

Wide take-up of the new version would further boost the market share of the browser which is currently used by about 15% of net users.

With the release, Firefox developer Mozilla is attempting to set a record for the most downloads over 24 hours.

This is not the 'finished product', but a 'release candidate' version, so people like me probably shouldn't risk it .... oh well ....

Well, so far (early days yet!), the only differences are:

1. Search previously visited, half remembered pages via the address box - neat and very, very effective.

2. "most visited" folder on bookmarks toolbar, which is learning slowly (so far it's mostly gmail URLs)

3. (you guessed it) some previous add-ons / extensions do not work!

If it's quicker, the difference is negligible or negative (you choose).

Prak, no links please as posted EVERYWHERE on this site smile

I got to say, I gave in to FF3 because of 2's memory leak thing and I really like it, the toolbar is... different, I can see it's usufulness however I got used to the most popular URL's being first in it smile

And best of all, no memory leaks! :D

They still haven't done much about the large footprint on the memory usage. I didn't want to sacrifice the add-ons on my own desktop. So tried FF3 in one of the office computers and it uses about 35 MB as against the IE 7's 18 MB.

You might say "not a big deal" with the present level 1 GB + system memory.

But the true number for IE is hidden as some of it is within the OS.

I was afraid you would say that G1smd. True. smile Direct comparison of IE with any other browser is tricky. Still if you have several browser windows open at the same time, then IE still occupies the lowest memory foot print. FF - no matter what version, always has high memory usage. In some cases, this results in disk thrashing for older machines with fewer RAM.
