i have a sire which cannot be found on Google.ie (although site is irish owned), yet appears very well on google.com. when i search under Irish pages only, it does not come up, where it should.
any ideas on how to get a listing here?

does it have an 'irish' domain?
is it hosted in the region?
does it have irish content?
Those are a few of the relevant factors I believe.

As Logan stated, you need either a .ie domain and/or for it to be physically hosted in the ROI (Google does a DNS lookup to see if your IP address resolves to Ireland if you are not an Irish TLD). Not all Irish hosting companies physically have their servers there, they may be elsewhere in Europe or even in the US - so the best way to be sure is to have an Irish TLD - then it shouldn't matter where you host.

There was a recent thread on this in the Google forum. I agree, you need either a ".ie" domain name, or your site must have an IP phisically located in Ireland.

Yes, it was a thread opened by myself and I would say that you need both .ie domain and irish hosting service.

if you search www.google.ie using pages from ireland you will find a lot of .com sites. .ie domain are incredibly expensive. but how many people in ireland search only pages from ireland? just searched irish only pages for translation, got 117,000 pages while uk only pages exceed 4 million results. now if you search for arabic translation or google adsense, you will be lucky to see more than a couple hundred results.

Could you focus a link campaign on Uk/Irish websites and make sure you specify Ireland or Irish in the anchor text? That might help develop relevance.

might pay to have a look at the irish sites that are listed and getting goof positionings in search results and see what they are doing..
look at things like titles, meta info, keywords, content etc.
am not an expert in this area, but have a look at the HTML info for a site say for example carsireland.ie...
check you google page rank as well, as this will have an effect.
there is so much information on SEO out there, do a google search and see what u find!!
