Hi all.
Where to start. How about the begining?
Working on a site that sells dish network in my hometown here. Basically I'm targeting "sioux falls dish network".
Most of the competition consists of those types of sites that target each and every city amounting to a lot of dupe content, with only the city name changing on the page. (know what I'm talking about?)
I've never had to deal with this type of SE competition in my previous SEO ventures, so I'm wondering how easy is it to beat these guys out if you truely are sioux falls based, versus a company spamming city names and offering dupe content.

The first place to start is to submit to Yahoo Local and DMOZ in your region. Then I would strongly suggest lots of local links pointing to the site. This helps build the "local" aspect and often beats those other sites.
And of course ensuring that the site has quality content and is search engine friendly never hurts either
