What is the best technique for indexing a new site in google?
I have been using social bookmarking with good success, but I was wondering what everyone else is doing.

The key to success in SEs is thinking long term.
Get some links from quality directories, plan a progressive growth and development of content.
Also, take care of the little things; good site navigation, sensible page sizes, browser friendly code.
... then it's a matter of reading here and SE guidelines to be sure your site is the best it can be.

I would say that the "best way" is to make sure that you have a search engine friendly site with unique content...then concentrate on getting on-topic links from not only the social media sites but from other sites that are already indexed; ones that are already showing up in the top 30 search results for your keyword phrases.

And submit your website in search engines.
Really not necessary; just one link from an indexed site will do the job for you. A submitted site without an incoming link will drop out very quickly, too.
