If you have a website and are trying to find the best keywords to optimize for, what tools do you suggest. For example if you have a plumbing services site in Austin, Texas, how do you find relevant keywords and phrases and how do you also find the keywords used by your competitors?
Thanks so much.

Google has created a brilliant tool.

I also use The Dowser, but there were issues with it a while ago.

The Google AdWords tool is good for more precise numbers, but Keyword Discovery is also very useful. It is best to use a combination of tools to get the best overall picture.
For quick checks I use keyword discovery to get an idea of what phrases etc may be appropriate, but then I also run these through the AdWords tool.

Belt and braces
Ahh, you must be from the UK. I see that is where that phrase originates - I had to look it up as I had never heard it before. Had to know if what you were saying was a positive comment, or a sarcastically negative one. I discovered it was positive re: [Belt and braces]
