Have You Seen Me Lately ?

Last week (August 18-24), The Search Engine Strategies Conference (SES) was held in San Jose, CA, at The Doubletree Hotel. Nearly 2000 attendees made the trek to Silicon Valley to dance with Google, soak in the sun, suck in the drinks; and network their rear-ends off. Oh, there were tons of very educational presentations as well… Read on.

Scumbag of the Week
Have you had your website ripped off yet? I'm not talking just about the design, but all of the hard work you put into the actual writing and content. How about having your other intellectual property ripped off: your customer data, for example? Let me quickly introduce you to a real dirtbag, one that's done both, and is single-handedly ripping off not just an individual website, but also causing serious monetary damage and destroying loyalty and trust within an entire industry.

One of our long time friends is Troy over at Pay Per Click Analyst (http://www.payperclickanalyst.com). Troy has spent the last 3 years reviewing the Pay Per Click search engines, culling forums, writing in depth articles, and producing a newsletter, all with the sole intention of educating people like you and me on the Pay Per Clicks. He tells it straight, and makes every attempt to provide you with unbiased reviews, tons of tips & tricks, and timely news. Well, the guys at ppcexperience.com thought that was pretty cool, so they went and created a website with a someone nifty design, and then proceeded to copy and paste every bit of Troy's content as their own. PPCExperience has infringed on every copyright law, and basically dumped all over the DMCA in an attempt to get some market share in the PPC education world.

That's bad. But worse, is that their intention is really not simply to educate and provide a service, as does Pay Per Click Analyst. Rather, ppcexperience.com is a front to a very scummy business model. What these guys are doing, is to follow every link on every PPC search engine (lots of fraudulent traffic there), and finding the email addresses off of the website, or looking them up in a whois database. They are compiling these email addresses in list format and selling them. Have you gotten this email yet ? The one claiming that they have the email addresses of every Google Adwords or Sprinks or Findwhat advertisers for sale? This is the source. These scumbags are literally selling off the contact information of the various pay per click engines customer list. No, they've not hacked the servers, but they are culling this information, and selling it off. This is destroying trust in the PPC Industry, and is just about the shadiest thing we've had the displeasure of having to report in a while.

There's strength in numbers, folks, lets, as a group, contact their ISP, and get them shut down.

Thank you for your review, I will benefit from your suggestions. I have one
question though. You said "In the source, you really need a meta description
for each page just as you do with any web site." How do I do this with blogger?

This "Scumbag of the Week" article is irresponsible. I had not trouble at all in receiving the following response from SpamArrest:

"Hi James,

Thank you for your email.

James, what you see there is absolutely wrong and is done to misguide our users and our new customers from Spam Arrest. We have over 1.5 million customers with us including you. You have been with us for a very long time, James. You can check with any of your contacts whether they have received any junk emails from us. We never do such a thing and its completely against our ethics! We hate spam as much as you do and so, along with stopping it, we make sure that none of our customer's emails are noted as spam. We warn our customers from sending bulk emails about the fact that their contacts might misunderstand their bulk emails as spam and will turn against them and Spam Arrest. A company following only such healthy practices can never do such a thing like spamming. What we value the most is our customer's trust and we will make all efforts to retain that in the best way possible. We never admit your personal information to any third party under whatsoever circumstances. You will find a whole lot of misleading things like this in Internet, James. We have friends and foes like anyone else in this planet.

I hope you will understand us the best way possible, James. Please do let me know if you need any further clarifications regarding this.

Best Regards,
Peter

Spam Arrest"

In the 3 years that I have used SpamArrest, I personally have never received one complaint from anyone that has been 'spammed' from any theoretical 'spam list' that SpamArrest may have created. I think that their statement above makes it clear that they would not do this.

I behooves you to publish a retraction.
